Heretic

Frank’s Film Review: Heretic
⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

Heretic is a gripping psychological horror film written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The story follows two missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as they venture into the home of a solitary and enigmatic man, portrayed by Hugh Grant. However, their mission to share their faith darkens when they discover the “man” is not what he seems.

While I often go into films like this with low expectations, I was genuinely impressed. Hugh Grant delivers an outstanding performance, perfectly capturing the unsettling aura of a reclusive character with layered complexity. His portrayal felt eerily real and added an extra edge to every scene.

The two missionaries, Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East, also impressed me with their performances. They brought a raw intensity and vulnerability to their roles, making their characters’ descent into fear and doubt all the more believable. Their dynamic with Grant created a compelling and tension-filled narrative that held my attention throughout.

Heretic rises above the mindless, poorly acted horror films that often flood the genre. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
